Independent Mental Health Advocacy The IMHAA service is an additional safeguard for patients who are subject to the Mental Health Act 1983 (2007 amendments). This service will not replace other advocacy services currently available to patients but will work in conjunction with them.

IMHAA’s are specialist advocates who are trained to work within the framework of the mental health act. They work with the legislative framework of the Mental Health Act to help a patient understand their rights, ensure they participate as fully as possible and empower a person in making their own decisions.
Carer & Family Support The Carer & Family Support service supports carers of people with mental health issues. The support offered aims to encourage carers to look after their own needs whilst looking after others. We are also keen to work with ‘hidden’ carers – people who have essential caring duties but are rarely recognised for their hard work. Several drop-in sessions are available and new carers groups are being established. Community Engagement Our support is to develop an information network and mental health network amongst people accessing mental health services, carers, professionals and the local strategically leading bodies. The vision is to ensure that mental health support and services in Oldham are developed by a user-led decision making process. The future is bright! The future outlook is to develop further comprehensive user-led services that encompass an approach to wellbeing, inclusion and recovery so watch this space...
