Welcome to our services in Oldham brought to you by Tameside Oldham and Glossop Mind! Many people, perhaps even the majority, develop emotional or psychological difficulties at some time in their lives. 1 in 4 people will have a mental health problem within the course of their life. We’re here to support you through such testing times and our plan for Oldham is to bring together all the different support available for people with mental health problems and develop on these networks – with a view to project planning for the future. Using person-centred approaches, we aim to enhance the day-to-day wellbeing of people by focusing on what’s being said to us, and creating opportunities for people to get more involved in deciding what works best for each individual. What we do.. At present, we’re out delivering advocacy, carer and family support and community engagement work. Tameside Oldham and Glossop Mind is a not-for-profit organisation which promotes well-being through social engagement and creative opportunities. We work with individuals to achieve their goals and aspirations, promoting recovery, self-management and social inclusion in partnership with other agencies and mainstream organisations. Where have we come from.. Tameside and Glossop Mind Association where the original organisation and had been supporting people in Ashton for a good few years with various types of services. Once the Oldham services where established, the Executive Committee decided to change the name to Tameside Oldham and Glossop Mind, and we now have offices based in Ashton and Oldham, with the Ashton office being the head office. There are a huge variety of support and service facilities available in Ashton, and you can find out more about these by clicking onto our sister website, www.topaz-ashton.org. The centre is a working environment, encouraging people to get involved as volunteers, working in the café, sharing their expertise in many subjects and activities, helping people with the internet, and perhaps working in the kitchen, gaining qualifications along the way. Ashton also has a very demanding 1-2-1 service, which includes counselling support. Our future .. Oldham has huge potential, and the people of Oldham are a great credit in being at the forefront of how things should be. We at Mind are keen to take advantage of this, and involve as many people as possible in telling us what they we think would be good and effective. We are keen to develop our wellbeing centre in Oldham, similar to Topaz as it’s been very popular but we need to be sure this is what local people want. At our launch, we intend to set-off our round-the-table discussions on what would prove popular to the local communities in terms of the ground floor of our offices – and we’ll set up a consultation with carers and people accessing mental health services to make sure we can hear everyone. In the meantime, if you’ve got any ideas on what should be available in our wellbeing centre, you can also e-mail us at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
